On Thursday 25th July, 16 teams from around the Paddington area, Paddington Central and Merchant Square took part in the 2019 Dragon Boat Regatta.
The COSMIC Dragon Boat Regatta which was returning for its 14th year on the Grand Union Canal hosted teams from businesses such as Takeda, BE Offices, JPC, Co-op and many more.. some returning to grab the title and others coming in as new competitors.
The Dragon Boat Regatta was held to raise essential funds for COSMIC (Children of St. Mary’s Intensive Care Unit) at St. Mary’s Hospital with the aim to beat last years fundraising total of £16,000.
This year we had 4 titles to give out including the wooden spoon, best dressed, second and of course first place!
In the final race we had last years winners Adam & Eve against newcomers McAleer & Rushe. In a very close and nail-biting final, McAleer & Rushe were crowned the overall winners by 0.15 seconds.
Cora’s Crew which had close ties to COSMIC and consisted of teachers from St. Paul’s and St. Michael’s in Hackney took home best dressed with the team and families as fairies whilst JPC took home the wooden spoon.
Overall it was another fantastic day for the community, the businesses, friends, family and COSMIC with a record breaking £27,000 raised (£10k over last years final total) from the Dragon Boat Race alone with the final amount still to be recorded.
We would like to thank everyone for their support and we look forward to hosting the 2020 Dragon Boat Regatta!
