Christmas magic at Merchant Square
Christmas is one of our favourite times of year, where the team decorate Merchant Square with over 10km of sparkly lights between the Floating Pocket Park and St Marys Bridge. This year, you can expect more Christmas installations than ever before including tunnels of light, twinkly arches, festive deer, illuminated trees and of course, our annual 20 ft Christmas tree! Our tree is particularly special because it changes colour, so look out for the moving candy cane stripes!
We are marking the start of the Christmas season with our Switch-On event, which is on the Thursday 23rd November, from 5.30pm – 7.30pm. The event will involve all the festive favourites, to get you into the spirit of Christmas! Enjoy live music from The Bombshells, who will be performing all the Christmas classics which will make you want to move your feet. There are 50 free portions of mulled wine/cider and 50 free portions of hot chocolate available for the first 100 people that attend the event! Free crumbly mince pies will also be on offer to warm your tums, available at a first come first served basis. Collect your mince pies and hot chocolate from our favourite artisan Italian vendor Wave Gelato. Mulled wine/cider will be available from the pop up Christmas bar! To redeem your drink, simply like our post on instagram and present your phone at the bar. You can also support Cosmic Charity by purchasing Christmas cards, honey or gingerbread throughout the evening. After the first 100 drinks have been redeemed, drinks and sweet treats will be available to purchase throughout the evening.
Look out for the illuminated stilt walkers and join in on the countdown which will begin at 6pm. We can’t wait to see you there!

- There are 50 portions of hot chocolate and 50 portions of mulled wine/cider available on a first come first served basis to those that have entered the competition. Guests that have entered are entitled to one portion each.
- To redeem your complimentary drink, you must like the Merchant Square Christmas post on Instagram and present your phone at the bar.
- Alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase throughout the evening.
- Alcohol will only be served to people of age and you must present a valid ID if prompted
- This event may be subject to cancellation or changes due to unforeseen weather. In such cases, event organisers will make reasonable efforts to inform attendees in advance.
